Hi, my name is Martin Cook and I am the sprints coach for University of Sheffield Athletics Club. I am a fully qualified level 2 coach for Sprints and Hurdles and began coaching for the University in September 2011, although I do have many years worth of coaching experience. I also still train and compete as an athlete in 400m where I have medalled at Regional level and competed at National Championships indoor and out.
My coaching philosophy is very simple;
Work as hard as you can in training and you will gain the rewards in competition!
Athletes at my sessions will work hard but I’m sure that they will all (mostly) tell you that they will have fun along the way. If you work hard for me then I’ll work hard for you! Remember, “Pain is just weakness leaving the body!”
Distance training on Tuesday nights is currently held jointly with Keith the Hallamshire Harriers Distance Coach. This covers a range of events, from 1500m upwards. On Thursday and Saturdays we run planned sessions as a Club. For more information about this, please contact Becky and Ellen. If you're just looking to try out running, or are looking for a way to get fit, check out our Beginners Run Group.
As we work to broaden the training we offer we are currently working to find a throws coach in time for the season to provide training and coaching. For more information or to register your interest, please contact Gareth.
